INSTITUTO ALLENDE, originally named the Escuela Universitaria de Bellas Artes was originally founded by Felipe Cossio del Pomar, a Peruvian Artist and Diplomat in exile, and his intellectual comrades Albonso Reyes and Jose Vasconcelos.

Over the past 50 years, INSTITUTO ALLENDE has earned the international recognition of being Mexico’s most respected art school. Instituto Allende’s Master of Fine Arts Program is endorsed by the University of Guanajuato and recognized by several U.S. universities. Instituto Allende offers BFA/MFA programs related to visual arts, communication and culture.

San Miguel’s perfect climate, cultural events and art schools attract international tourists and is home to a large ex-pat community that is very involved in the health and well-being of the locals.
