A eco-retreat and sustainable health yoga retreat in Mexico

Tailwind is a sustainable jungle lodge, retreat center and adventure tour company founded by the Jacobi family in 2007. The lodge is located on the spectacular coastline of the Mexican Pacific, just north of the charming town of San Pancho (official name, San Francisco) in the state of Nayarit, creatively nestled amidst 5 acres of truly stunning jungle ridges descending to white sand beaches and the vast Pacific ocean.

In March 2009, Tailwind became the first certified sustainable eco-lodge in Mexico. This certification, through Sustainable Travel International, had been a goal for the Tailwind lodge since its inception. The process of achieving this certification also strengthened the Jacobi Family’s vision of environmentalism and sustainable lifestyle with a focus on harmony and balance between the lodge, the community and the natural world.

Tailwind’s collection of 6 different creatively-designed units are perched on the hillside with a variety of jungle and ocean views.

The palapas are open-air living spaces with tile floors, a semi-enclosed bedrooms, 3/4 walls for plenty of privacy, a queen bed and private bathroom with a flush toilet and hot water shower. The 2 palapas share a kitchen and large dining area (ideal for 2 couples). The main deck of Palapa Tigre is a great space for yoga. Palapas are the units located closest to the dipping pool and most easily accessed from the parking area.

The casitas have thatched rooves, tiles floors and full walls with wooden/glass doors that can be closed to provide an enclosed space. Both Casitas also have large open deck spaces, 2 bedrooms, full kitchens and private bathrooms with hot water showers. (Casita Pumita has a flush toilet, Casita Tejone has a composting toilet)

The bungalows are rustic wooden platforms with canvas, safari style wall tents – suited to adventurous travelers! Bungalows include a Mexican style dining table and chairs, a hammock, a small kitchenette, a bedroom area, a private hot water shower (newly improved and lovely!) and a shared composting toilet.

Tailwind is perfect for adventure seekers that want to spend time sea kayaking, stand up paddle boarding and surfing. According to Rhett, Kayak/Surf Guide, Surf School Director – some of the best surf is right around San Pancho.

Or maybe you’d prefer a relaxing massage, a yoga session, family reunion, wedding party, friendly get together, a swing in the hammock, a hike to the Buddha, avocado loop or Los Muertos (therapeutic mud) – or maybe you’re in the mood to just laze around.
