Los Cuatro Vientos (The Four Winds) is a well-established traditional-style posada – one of the few remaining in Puerto Vallarta. The intimate, colonial inn is situated in a residential neighbourhood, 3 blocks from the ocean and within easy reach of Vallarta’s galleries, boutiques, restaurants and nightlife.
The charming inn is perched on a hillside amongst white buildings with terra cotta roofs – one of the many charming aspects of Old Vallarta. 14 guest rooms and suites are decorated in the fashion and colors of reminiscent of old Mexico – each room with a private bath, a dresser, desk, comfy bed, small closet and Mexican style shower. The suites can be combined to sleep a group of 6.
Rooms are accessed from balconies garnished with ever flowering bougainvillea. Louvered windows and table fans create ventilation. There is no elevator so the hotel is suited to guests that can manage stairs. The inn has WiFi but no television or phones.
Each morning a gratuitous buffet style breakfast is served in the garden patio. Chez Elena has been a Vallarta landmark since 1954. The popular restaurant is often host to intimate, romantic dinners, birthday celebrations and caters to fiestas and events (up to 100 guests).
El Nido (the Nest) the 3rd storey rooftop bar has a fabulous sunset view – not to mention super-sized margaritas! Guests are entitled to a 10% discount at both of the above on-premise restaurants.
The property has a small, deep pool surrounded with colourful flowers and tropical greenery. The rooftop terrace is an ideal sanctuary for sunbathing, reading and contemplating life.
The proprietor Gloria Whiting has a love of Mexico that is infectious. Gloria’s clientele tends to be interesting and eclectic. Guests immediately feel at home when they experience Gloria’s welcoming, hospitable nature. Rufino Tamayo, a famous Mexican artist and contemporary of Diego River and Frida Kahlo, vacationed at Los Cuatro Vientos.
Cat lovers will be amused by the antics of the two kitten mascots. If you miss your cat at home one of them might even keep you company for the night. Los Cuatro Vientos is a good choice for family and single travel or a learning vacation.
