Barra de Navidad

Barra de Navidad

The idyllic little village of Barra, situated on a lovely little sandbar, is completely surrounded by beach. As a matter of fact, you can walk along the beach to the neighbouring village of Melaque. Barra is situated on the Costa Allegre  (Happy Coast ) approximately 20 minutes north of Manzanilla and 3 hours south of Vallarta.

Barra is a laid-back pueblo, perfect for vacationers looking for rest and relaxation. The small town is not commercial – you won’t find any large fancy chain hotels or restaurants in Barra. The town has been home to expats for years so if you don’t speak Spanish you’ll be sure to meet friendly locals and vacationers. Barra is about beaches, biking, scuba diving, surfing, golf, horseback riding and sports fishing.

Barra is a pretty sleepy little town. The two big yearly events are a fishing tournament held sometime in January each year (on Mexican time) and Easter! The 2 week period around Easter is party time so stay off the roads if you can! City dwellers show up at the coast in droves. Barra has an incredible version of the Passion Play – the stages between the Last Supper and the Resurrection after which it’s Carnaval time – the tiny town is packed full of revellers dining in local restaurants.

After the majestic sun drops into the Pacific kick up your heels to the tune of the local bandas.
